Tumpekire Mwambene (known as Tumpe, pictured right) with her father Senema Mwambene (58). Following a sickness Tumpe was left with the traditional healer as payment for her treatment and became one of his wives. After pressure from the LISAP Father and Mother group Tumpe's father borrowed a cow to settle the fees and she has returned to the family home. The Livingstonia Synod AIDS Programme (LISAP) 'coordinates the HIV & AIDS activities of the Church of Central Africa, Presbyterian (CCAP) Synod of Livingstonia and mobilises and empowers communities to initiate and sustain HIV & AIDS interventions with a Christ centred spirit.' (LISAP website). Its Girls and Boys Empowerment Project funds increased access to education as an early intervention method to HIV/AIDS prevention.
