Peter Thuo (right) is a young entrepreneur who started his own company Greentech which specialises in environmentally friendly technology. He made a new prototype for a machine which produces briquets. These machines are sold to schools with the aid of ICC (International Climate Challenge). The briquets are made out of waste material such as charcoal dust and paper. Schools are the perfect clients for these machines as they have loads of paper waste and pupils can make the briquets themselves. The cost of the briquet machine is between 500 and 10000 Ksh (3 - 73 GBP). The briquets can be used in any type of oven but Peter also sells an improved energy saving oven (jiko kisase) in which 5 briquets can cook a meal. This oven saves 60 percent of energy compared with the traditional three stones oven.
