Marina in her home in Taplaken Castle in the village of Talpaki. The family moved to the Kaliningrad region from Uzbekistan in the 1990's. The castle was used as temporary accommodation for migrants from across the Soviet Union working in the local state or collective farm. When the state farms were closed in the 90's, the castle was recognised as a monument of cultural heritage. Its residents were unable to legally privatise housing in it, but promises to provide residents with new apartments were never fulfilled. Of the eight families previously living here, only two remain. Neither the state nor commercial structures help residents maintain the building.
