Nenets children do not always finish all 11 classes of school if their parents need them to work on the tundra. Masha stayed with her family after the 8th course to take care of her younger brothers and sisters, although she dreams of being a translator. Haptco, an orphan deer, was raised by the family after his mother died. He has become part of choom life and sits and snoozes inside with them to escape the summer mosquitos.
