The coordinator of a microfinance group counts repayments and keeps a log of all formalities, while members of the group look on. Grameen Bank, literally meaning "Bank of the Villages", is a microfinance organisation and community development bank that issues small loans without requiring collateral. In 2006 Grameen Bank, along with its founder Dr. Mohammad Yunus, were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for their efforts to create economic and social development from below."
