Displaced people living in the looted Ducor Palace Hotel. The history of the hotel mirrors the economic and political development of Liberia. It was a five star luxury hotel before the civil war started at the end of 1989. It then became a refuge for political leaders and the country's elite, coming under heavy fire and looting by rebel armies. Since 2003 it has been home to hundreds of displaced people. Slowly the government is rehousing the displaced and the hotel will be restored to its original status as a luxury hotel high on a promontory overlooking Monrovia.
