Roberto Mahia leaps into the ocean to harvest percebes (Goose barnacles) from the coastline of La Coruna. Percebes, considered a luxury seafood item, grow on the rocks of these storm battered northern Spanish shores. The dangerous business of harvesting them for sale generates millons of Euros each year in Spain, providing a livelihood for many families. Although tightly regulated due to the economic crisis many people have been attracted to illegally poaching the crustaceans creating an unsustainable strain on the natural resource.
