Maxine hold her son Cohen at their home in Tigers Bay, a loyalist area in Belfast. Maxine and her boyfriend Mucker were forced to leave Northern Ireland after he was accused of selling drugs by the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) paramilitary group. After two years in Scotland they returned and Mucker joined the Ulster Defence Association (UDA) in an attempt to seek protection.
