A traditional Beijing courtyard, of a type that is fast disappearing. Duan Qi Rui Fu was built at the end of the Qing dynasty and was the residence of the King's relatives. During the Communist Revolution these buildings were used as offices by the army. At present the courtyard houses are home to 122 ordinary families. The place is rundown, and the courtyard is not as old as the surrounding buildings. The government has issued warnings that the houses are a fire hazard and would like the families to move out.
