The 2020 event celebrated the 70th anniversary of the summiting, in 1950 by a French team, of Annapurna which was the first time in recorded history a peak over 8000m was climbed. The celebratory event took place in the shadow of COVID-19 restrictions, with obligatory masks for the occasion, which is celebrated on the Feast of the Assumption.
