On the afternoon of Sunday 13 September Sham, one of two daughters of Syrian refugee Aysha, sits in her mother's arms as they travel through Macedonia by train. They are on a special train provided for refugees taking them from Gevgelija to Slanishte on the Serbian border. It is overcrowded, hot and there are no lights, so everytime it passes through a tunnel it is pitch black and the girls are scared, Sham has been crying.<br />

Photographer Georgios Makkas followed the journey of Aysha and her children as they arrived on the Greek island of Lesbos and then made their way to Munich.
