On the afternoon of Sunday 13 September Sham, one of two daughters of Syrian refugee Aysha, sits in her mother's arms as they travel through Macedonia by train. They are on a special train provided for refugees taking them from Gevgelija to Slanishte on the Serbian border. It is overcrowded, hot and there are no lights, so everytime it passes through a tunnel it is pitch black and the girls are scared, Sham has been crying.
Photographer Georgios Makkas followed the journey of Aysha and her children as they arrived on the Greek island of Lesbos and then made their way to Munich.
