Marietou pulls a bucket of water out of a well 63 metres deep. At 13 years old she is the oldest daughter of the family. Every day she has to transport six buckets of water to her home. In Mali girls and women are in charge of the water transport and have to walk long distances between the well and their homes. The regular necessity to walk long distances in order to fetch water prevents many girls from going to school.
