Norwegian Defence League held their first rally in Oslo on April 9, 2011. Only a handuful of people turned up, and NDL were outnumbered by media representatives. In another part of town opponents held a counter demonstration. A man was alleged to have have called rasist remarks and hit a woman, and was subsequently beaten by protesters. The man was eventually rescued by a plain clothed police man.
