Padstow is the first town we visit on our late summer trip along England's southwestern coast to Cornwall. Warm days follow cold mornings, with the pale yellow sun warming our faces as we walk along the narrow paths traversing the cliffs. This is the land of pirates. A place of legend.
Driving trough the hills, flanked by lakes on either side, white horses stand statuesque, silhouetted against the sky. We can't stop. It's late and we have to reach the next port. The light turns amber by the time we get to Portreath. We stop at a beach where a group of kids are surfing. The sun has grown big and red as it begins its dip below the horizon. As the light fades, we shoot the last frames of the day. We follow the disappearing sun on our way to the next town.
A pine forest and a ferry bring us to a small tourist town where visitors are watching a famous chef doing a cooking demonstration. Fresh sea food is on sale everywhere as we move along the coast. More tourists and gift shops, more ice-cream parlours. We walk to the highest point of the village to see the view. It's very quiet. Only the sound of the ocean accompanies us as we walk past an old mine. Behind the ruin, a photographer is shooting a wedding photos. The bride is on crutches.
For 10 days we travel between old, yet expensive hotels, cliff paths, beaches, harbours, hills and waterfalls until we reach the Southern part from where we head up the Northern coast. We see the tide coming in and going out. Another wedding on the beach, an old couple eating cake, kids building sand castles, swans enjoying the last sun of the day.
