Comrade Duch pictured as a boy of about 17. The photograph was found in his family home in Kompong Thom. Duch (real name Kaing Guek Eav) was chief executioner of the Khmer Rouge, responsible for the S-21 detention centre at Tuol Sleng, where over 16,000 people were killed between 1975 and 1979. Photographer Nic Dunlop unearthed Duch working with the American Refugee Committee in 1999. He is currently awaiting trial.
