A child lies on the floor of a tent at the Zaatari Refugee Camp. He and his family are survivors of the chemical weapons attack on the Damascus suburb of Ghouta on 21 August 2013. When the chemical attack took place the father covered the children with wet blankets to protect them from the gas. His fast thinking probably saved their lives, but they were all still suffering symptoms when, several days later, they arrived at the camp. They have difficulties breathing, and suffer headaches, dizziness, stinging eyes and vomiting. Approximately two million people have fled the conflict in Syria. At least 130,000 of them live in Zaatari Refugee Camp, although it was designed to house 60,000, and a further 2,000 people arrive each day.
