Khaled decided to flee his home when his 11 year old son, who was guarding cows in a field, was killed by a bomb on 3 March 2013. Approximately two million people have fled the conflict in Syria. At least 130,000 of them live in Zaatari Refugee Camp, although it was designed to house 60,000, and a further 2,000 people arrive each day.
