A modern highrise office block rises behind the Bauhaus style Max Pine School on Hachmi (Haroshet) Street, built in 1936 by Architect Erich Mendelsohn. Tel Aviv is known as the White City in reference to its collection of 4,000 Bauhaus style buildings, the largest number in any city in the world. In 2003 the Bauhaus neighbourhoods of Tel Aviv were placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. .
