A detail of the Bauhaus style Recanati House at 35 Menachem Begin Street built by Shlomo Liaskovski and Jacob Orenste in 1935. Tel Aviv is known as the White City in reference to its collection of 4,000 Bauhaus style buildings, the largest number in any city in the world. In 2003 the Bauhaus neighbourhoods of Tel Aviv were placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. .
