Tourists walk over a pavement plaque indicating the area of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as The White City on the Rothschild Boulevard. Tel Aviv is known as the White City in reference to its collection of 4,000 Bauhaus style buildings, the largest number in any city in the world. In 2003 the Bauhaus neighbourhoods of Tel Aviv were placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
