The roof of the Bauhaus style Zitter House at 6 Mendelsohn Street built by architect Gershon Stempler in 1937. Tel Aviv is known as the White City in reference to its collection of 4,000 Bauhaus style buildings, the largest number in any city in the world. In 2003 the Bauhaus neighbourhoods of Tel Aviv were placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. .
