Nurse Said Isa carries one year old Satara through a hospital corridor after transporting her from another hospital where she had a CT-scan. Kabul Ambulance Service (KAS) is the first such service in Afghanistan. In a country where anyone sick or injured usually is transported to the doctor, or hospital, by taxi, on foot or even on the back of a mule, helped by relatives, an ambulance service equipped with 4WD Landcruisers and nurses is a huge improvement. KAS is currently serving a population of about 4.5 million people with less than 15 ambulances, but hope to expand their services.
