(February 1998) A girl and her mother outside t the Saddam hospital in Baghdad.
Due to UN sanctions the hospital was lacking many medicines, and the civilians suffered due to lack of food as well.
Former U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq Denis Halliday estimated the resulting deaths : "Two hundred thirty-nine thousand children 5 years old and under" as of 1998.
